When you’re up for some no nonsense BBQ in the Palm Springs CA area, be sure to stop off at Babe’s Bar-B-Que Grill and Brewhouse. Sure it’s debatable whether this is the region’s best or if the chefs adhere to a proper style or method of preparation, but their portions along with sides are enormous and the flavor is down home good.
You’ll be greeted by 2 brass pigs standing guard on either side of the front door just in case that you forget that ribs are their specialty. Once inside or out on their patio overlooking the river, essentially spring water from deep below the desert that bubbles to the surface, the atmosphere is southwestern casual with southern charm, bringing together a house mix of blues, rockabilly, country, and southern rock.
The meats are hickory-smoked pork, chicken, and beef, slathered with assorted sauces but the jewels in their crown are Baby Back Ribs and mouth-watering Pulled Pork sandwiches.
Accompanying the signature BBQ is an extensive list of libations including more than a dozen hard-to-find beers from the South, top California wines, and their 25-ounce Colossal Coolers in refreshing flavors like the Southern Peach Lemonade and Hogwild Hurricane, along with award-winning micro-brews.
It not always possible, especially with a heavy entrée like BBQ but try against all odds to save room for dessert. The onsite Le Cordon Bleu-trained dessert chef bakes up some mean rustic home-style pies and shortcakes made individually throughout the day.
