If you can’t make it to Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans this coming July, the next best thing is the Manhattan Cocktail Classic held May 14-18. This is NYC’s first ever multi-day event celebrating the history, contemporary culture, and artful craft of the cocktail. Festival, conference, and a gigantic cocktail party all wrapped into one, the Manhattan Cocktail Classic brings everybody in the drinks biz together for 5 days of educational and celebratory activities all in the name of the almighty cocktail and the blessed ingredients used to mix them.
Tickets to most events are $50 and you certainly have a pick of some interesting offerings. Here is a couple at the top of my list:
Glasses & Tools: How Do You Choose the Right Glass for a Drink?
Who knew? The choice of glass can mean the difference between a successful and elegant drink, or a glass of booze. In a commercial operation, the choice of glass can dramatically impact the bottom line. At home, the choice of glass can have an impact on the success of your cocktail party, and the well being of your guests. You’ll learn how to pair the perfect glass for some well-known classics.
Micro Spirits Odyssey: From Moonshine to Mastery – Stories From Behind the Stills
Not only are entrepreneurs building viable, sustainable businesses using traditional, hands-on distilling techniques, they are enthusiastically embracing the distinctly American “moonshine culture.” Take a journey through the history of distillation, from the early years of bootleg stills to the modern usage of copper pots and learn about the different home craft techniques that have evolved over the years. Legendary Moonshiner Junior Johnson will give his account of how his bootleg running days evolved into a profitable (and legal) business.
Lucky attendees will get to two delicious libations created by Hush Cocktails, using the craft products featured at the Micro Spirits Odyssey, as well as a delectable culinary pairing fashioned by iconic Executive Chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli.
