Sometimes you just need a device to make life easier and more rewarding…a way to combat the hectic lifestyle we have created for ourselves. Cooking up food that realistically fits into your daily routine that’s both healthy & tasty can be a supreme challenge. There are a lot of gadgets on the market that are a complete waste of money. Either they are poorly built, a novelty at best, or don’t even closely live up to their hyped-up promises.
T-Fal’s ActiFry definitely bucks this disappointing trend. Regularly retailing for $250, ActiFry requires a leap of faith and not a mere whim to purchase. You’ll be a lot more likely to think twice before whipping out your credit card for this kind of purchase rather than being lured by a late night infomercial into becoming a proud new owner of an all-purpose veggie slicer originally retailing for $150…now for only $9.99 with a myriad of accessories. We all know where a device like this ends up…in the back of your drawer and eventually at a tag sale.
The ActiFry is higher priced for a reason. It’s truly a versatile state-of-the-art appliance
that can serve as a roaster, stir fry pan, healthy fryer, or a quick slow cooker. It comes with a recipe book containing 38 unique recipes to get you started ranging from French Fries to Fruit Compote. The word “fry” is kind of a misnomer for how it works. ActiFry has a hot air distribution system that pulses intense heat (338 F) while optimizing air circulation to evenly cook food while an internal paddle gently stirs the ingredients to prevent burning. All recipes require no more than 2 tablespoons of oil. And best of all, it’s easy to use…just turn on and set the timer…and easy to clean…all cooking parts are non-stick and dishwasher-safe.
I broke in my cooker with their signature recipe….homemade French fries that only require 1.5 tablespoons of olive oil. Preparation was much easier than I expected and the flavor after sprinkling in some paprika and sea salt was richer and more flavorful than any restaurant fries I’ve had….all in 40 minutes without emitting any cooking odors whatsoever!
