I was extremely lucky to have a Business Class seat on Swiss Air flying out to Zurich from Boston. The roughly 8 hour flight was so much more comfy with a large plush seat that fully reclined into a bed. I had plenty of room on either side to stow books & blankets….but the crowning amenity was showcased in Swiss Air’s culinary offerings.
As a prelude to what was in store, I was offered my choice of champagne flutes filled with orange juice or Champagne. It wasn’t so difficult for me to settle on a glass of bubbly. Since this was an evening flight, once aloft I selected the following from their inflight dinner menu which features genuine tastes of the various regions of Switzerland and their culinary traditions. Launched in 2002, their SWISS – Taste of Switzerland meal offerings is shaped by top Swiss chefs who create dishes featuring delicacies from their own canton including local wines and cheeses.
My flight’s menu was inspired by the Bernese Oberland and created by chef Jan Leimbach from the Lenkerhof Hotel in Lenk, Switzerland. I selected Roast chicken breast with lemon and herbs Provencale sauce, pilaf rice with broccoli and carrots, cheese selection, Panna cotta with maple syrup & crushed ginger cookies, and finally as a crowning touch…a couple selections from a box of Swiss chocolates along with an espresso.
Just for good measure, I pinched myself to make sure that a basket of tiny peanut packets and complimentary soda wasn’t being offered instead.
