Being a diehard ACDC fan, I was thrilled to recently have the opportunity of sampling 2 of the 5 wines these Aussie rockers from down under are now producing in partnership with Warburn Estate Vineyards situated in New South Wales’ Riverina region. Each varietal is named after hit albums and a song that popularly endure to this day. Aging like fine wine themselves, here’s what you get from longstanding members of a hard rockin’ super group that continuously packs stadiums for over 3 decades…. Back in Black Shiraz, Highway to Hell Cabernet Sauvignon, Thunderstruck Chardonnay, Hells Bells Sauvignon Blanc, and You Shook Me All Night Long Moscato.

Apparently, with over 50,000 cases sold since their release in 2010, ACDC wines are developing a fan base all of their own not only based on name recognition and marketing savvy but also on sophisticated flavor profiles. Here’s what I experienced:

Back in Black Shiraz deepens the base with bold berry on the bouquet. Undulating lead guitar unleashes Aussie richness with a full red cherry on the nose across the tongue onto the palate. Hard hitting spice with a neat mouth feel mellows out to nothingness until the inevitable next sip.

Thunderstruck Chardonnay pulsates with an overarching yet delicate fruity punch with a solid peach/pear nectar holding it all together from the bouquet to the mouth feel. Flashes of citrusy lemon sporadically zap the palate throughout the swallow.
