Harry & David has been in the gourmet gift basket business for over 80 years. They got their start selling perfectly ripe Royal Riviera pears sourced from 240 prime acres of orchards in Southern Oregon’s Rogue River Valley. Gradually they included homemade confections and other natural treats to their growing product lineup. And then in 2012, they began offering their very own wines. Here are 2 strikingly unique-tasting varietals to get you started:
Viognier grapes have light skins making them difficult to grow anywhere outside of France. Southern Oregon is apparently a rare exception. This complex white with a light fruit-spice bouquet quickly develops a heavily nuanced patina across the palate ranging from peach to lively curds. Honeyed undertones with crisp yet sweet tannins. Pairs nicely with risottos, elaborate salads…any dish possessing a multiplicity of character to match this feisty vintage.
2011 Royal Crest Red
A red blend uniquely balanced with smooth fruit and subtle undertones of vanilla and cedar yields a glass brimming with cherry and blackberry balanced with a medium-bodied spiciness and bright finish. This complex red reveals a multi-faceted flavor profile as it travels across the palate nicely complementing grilled steak and lamb, stews, cheese, and dishes with rich sauces or mushrooms.
